The sticky monkeyflower, Mimulus aurentiacus, is blooming profusely this May along the steep, southfacing slopes of the Yuba River. This is a great time of year to go flower watching along the lower elevation chaparral and oakwoodlands, for soon the flowers will have gone to seed in the summer's heat. Watch also for poppies, stonecrop, penstemon, globe lilies, golden brodeia, lupine.... you get the idea.
