A new book, entitled Underwater Eden, will include an illustration I created of a stony coral polyp. The book, subtitled Race to Save the Last Underwater Wilderness, describes the Phoenix Islands Protected area, the largest and newest UNESCO's World Heritage Site. Due to its isolation in the South Pacific, this remote area ( a five day boat trip from Fiji) is extraordinarily pristine and biologically diverse, with over 500 fish species and at least 120 types of coral identified thus far.
I am honored to have an illustration in this new book soon to be published by the University of Chicago Press, and dream of one day visiting this fascinating area and diving its rich waters.
